A Bit About Us
We’re Adam and Helen and First Aid and Safety Training is very much a family-run business.
When we first started, we saw how many people left first aid courses still unsure of themselves. They had the certificate, but not always the confidence.
That didn’t sit right with us.
So we built our training around a different approach, less sitting and listening, more laughing, engaging, practising and talking through real situations. The kind of training that actually sticks with the learner.
Since then, we’ve grown into a recognised first aid training provider in the North East, working with businesses, schools, charities and individuals across the region.
What We Do
These days, our work is a real mix, which is exactly how we like it.
Some days we’re delivering onsite training for businesses, working with teams in their own environment. Other days we’re running open courses in South Shields, Sunderland or Durham, welcoming individuals and small groups.
We deliver a full range of courses, including:
- Workplace First Aid courses
- Paediatric First Aid training
- Basic Life Support and CPR training
- Blended learning options (online + practical)
- Community Workshops
Whether it’s a large organisation or someone booking on their own, the aim is always the same, make the training clear, enjoyable, practical and useful.
How We Deliver Our Training
We keep things simple and real.
You won’t find long lectures or complicated jargon in our sessions. Instead, we focus on:
Hands-on practice
Real-life scenarios
Repetition to build confidence
Clear, easy-to-follow guidance
As a first aid training provider in the North East, our goal is simple, make sure people leave feeling confident enough to act, not just remember information.
We also make sure our training is supportive and inclusive. Everyone learns differently, and we take the time to make sure every learner feels comfortable and confident, whether it’s their first course or a requalification.Â
This is exactly the reason we maintain a 100% pass rate on our first aid courses.
Training You Can Trust
While our training is delivered in a friendly and relaxed way, it’s built on a strong foundation of real-world experience and recognised qualifications.
Adam is the founder and lead instructor, with a background in the Royal Military Police, Military Provost Guard Service and the Royal Military Police Reserves. He has also worked as a Wing Instructor for the Northumbria University Officer Training Corps. Alongside this, Adam delivers Trauma Casualty Care training for military and police settings, bringing a practical, real-world approach into every course.
His qualifications include:Â Level 4 Education and Training | Level 4 Internal Quality Assurer | Outdoor First Aid | Emergency & Trauma Casualty Care | Police Safety Training
Helen plays a key role in both the training and the overall experience. As a qualified first aid instructor and the person most clients speak to first, she ensures everything runs smoothly from initial enquiry through to certification. Whether it’s helping you choose the right course, answering questions or managing bookings, Helen makes sure everything is clear, organised and stress-free.
Together, we combine practical experience with a supportive approach, making sure every learner feels confident, comfortable and fully prepared.
As a Qualsafe Registered Training Centre, all of our courses are
- Ofqual regulated
- HSE compliant
- EYFS compliant where needed
- In line with current Resuscitation Council UK guidance
So while the training feels approachable and easy to follow, you can be confident it is delivered to a high standard and recognised across the UK.
Between us, we’ve delivered training to hundreds of learners across the North East, always with the same focus, helping people leave confident, not just qualified.

Giving Back With First Aid Saves Lives CIC
Alongside our training work, we also run First Aid Saves Lives CIC.
This is something we’re really passionate about.
Through the CIC, we deliver community workshops, helping people learn basic life-saving skills like CPR, defibrillator use and bleed control, often in settings where access to training might otherwise be limited.
As a first aid training provider in the North East, this is an important part of what we do, making these skills accessible to as many people as possible.
If you would like to learn more about our free and low-cost workshops, call Helen on 0191 7166601 and see what we can do for your community or group.
Why People Choose First Aid and Safety Training
Most people come to us because they want training that feels straightforward, practical and useful.
They stay with us because they enjoy the way we deliver it.
We’re proud of the feedback we get, especially when people say they feel more confident than they ever have after a course.
That’s always the goal.

First Aid Is a Life Skill, Not Just a Qualification
While our courses are fully approved and designed to meet workplace requirements, we always come back to one simple message, first aid is a life skill.
Most real emergencies don’t happen in controlled environments. They happen without warning, in everyday situations, at home, out with family, at school, on the road or in public places.
That’s why we focus so heavily on practical, easy-to-remember skills that people can actually use when it matters most. We don’t just teach what’s in a manual. We teach what you’re likely to face in real life.
Why This Matters in the Real World
Across the North East and beyond, incidents happen every day where first aid makes a difference.
Road traffic collisions, sudden medical emergencies, incidents at school, choking in restaurants, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, accidents at home or out in the community, these are situations people find themselves in unexpectedly.
They’re not rare. They’re real life.
And in those moments, the person who steps in is often not a professional, it’s a colleague, a parent, a passer-by or a family member.
Real People, Real Situations
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is hearing back from people who have actually used their training.
We’ve had learners who have:
Performed CPR in real emergencies
Helped someone who was choking
Responded to serious bleeding incidents
Supported family members during medical emergencies
Helped at the scene of road traffic accidents
Managed anaphylaxis and asthma attacks
Dealt with incidents in schools, workplaces and public settings
Many of them come back to us afterwards, sometimes just to say thank you, sometimes to check they did the right thing.
That tells us everything we need to know about the value of practical, confidence-based training.
Training That Stays With You
This is exactly why we deliver our courses the way we do.
By focusing on hands-on practice, real scenarios and repetition, we help people build the confidence to act, not hesitate.
Because when something happens, there’s no time to think back to a slide or a textbook. You rely on what you remember and what you’ve practised.
