The First Aid At Work and Paediatric First Aid Courses are very in-depth and will give you a thorough grounding and knowledge when it comes to knowing what to do in an Emergency. Within the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course you will have a lot of hands-on time dealing with scenarios and incidents, you will get 2 First Aid Qualifications in one training and will cover the following:
First Aid At Work
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
- Be able to assess an incident.
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty.
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking.
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock.
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey.
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries.
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries.
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury.
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness.
Paediatric First Aid
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider.
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
- Be able to provide First Aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive.
- Be able to provide First Aid for an infant and a child who is choking.
- Be able to provide First Aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
- Know how to provide First Aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock.
- Know how to provide First Aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries.
- CPR: must demonstrate correct placement of AED pads on a child manikin and identify where
to place AED pads on an infant manikin. - Demonstrate ‘following AED instructions’.
- Recovery Position: a position that maintains a stable open draining airway.
- Provide appropriate help for an infant (baby) or a child.
- Manage the situation and seek appropriate assistance when necessary.
- Be aware of seizures.
See symptoms of Hypovolaemic shock. - Deal with human and animal bites.
- Deal with bee and wasp stings.

Level 3 Award in Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course(RQF).
Combining the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) and the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) into 3 extended days of classroom learning, this specially designed course provides learners with all of the skills and knowledge needed to provide both adult and paediatric first aid, whilst minimising the number of training days required to achieve both qualifications.
Intended Audience.
Streamlined perfectly to avoid the duplication of topics associated with attending both the First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid courses separately, the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid course has been specifically designed for those who work in settings that require both First Aider’s and Paediatric First Aider’s, such as schools, sports clubs or other childcare settings.
Please note, Learners who wish to undertake the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid course must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.
Course Overview.
Over 3 extended days, learners will develop the knowledge and practical competencies needed to provide effective first aid for adults, children and infants. Topics include: CPR and AED use, choking, stroke, head injuries, fractures, asthma and much more.
Please note that Learners will be required to repeat the full 3 day course in order to re-qualify.
Assessment Methods.
There will be a number of assessments on the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course, don’t worry though, your instructor will make sure you are 100% ready to take and pass them successfully.

Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course Qualification Overview.
- The First Aid At Work qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
Resuscitation Council (UK). - Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications.
- Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
This qualification is:
- For people who deal with first aid at work enabling them to be workplace first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
- Based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work (FAAW) courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
- Who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations which can arise when looking after children.
This qualification should enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations.
This qualification outlines a range of practical skills for providing first aid to infants and children.
Learners will practise assessing and managing an incident and demonstrate how to treat a variety of serious conditions.
Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of first aider.
Objective of the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course
The objective of the qualification is to benefit learners by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, take on the role of first aider in the workplace, have the competencies needed to deal with a range of Paediatric First Aid situations when working with children or infants.
Purpose.
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare the learner to develop the skills and knowledge needed to take on the role of first aider in the workplace and be capable of dealing with all age ranges.
Intended Audience.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.
Structure of the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Course.
This qualification contains 3 mandatory units with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 26 hours.
Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification.
The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 10 weeks.
TQT is the total number of hours required for a Learner to achieve this qualification.
It has 2 elements:
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH) is the time a Learner is being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a Trainer, which for this qualification is 22 GLH (minimum), and
• The number of hours a Learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation and study, including assessment, as directed by, but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Trainer, e.g. home study, which for this qualification is 4 hours.
