South Shields Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work

South Shields Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work

Incorporating the Latest Resuscitation Guideline Updates

On 23rd February 2026, First Aid and Safety Training delivered a full Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course at our South Shields venue, One Trinity Green.

This course was particularly important as it incorporated the latest Resuscitation Guideline updates, ensuring learners received the most current, evidence-based information available.

With a full room of learners from a variety of local businesses, the day was energetic, focused, and highly practical — exactly how first aid training should be.

A Strong Mix of Local Businesses

The course brought together learners from:

  • The Clifton Hotel
  • CPM Retrofit
  • A licensed SIA security professional
  • Green Fingers Garden Centre

One learner from Green Fingers had previously attended a Save A Life Community Workshop delivered through First Aid Saves Lives. After enjoying that session, she decided to progress her knowledge further by completing the full Emergency First Aid at Work qualification — a great example of community engagement leading to continued learning.

What the Course Covered

The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in a workplace emergency. This session included all required elements, alongside the latest updates to resuscitation guidance.

Topics covered included:

  • The role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
  • Incident and casualty assessment
  • Recognising life-threatening conditions
  • Managing an unconscious casualty
  • Adult CPR delivered in line with updated guidelines
  • Safe and confident use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking emergencies
  • Wounds, bleeding, and shock
  • Recognition and management of catastrophic bleeding

Practical Assessments and Hands-On Learning

Throughout the day, learners completed practical assessments to demonstrate competence in:

  • CPR performance, including compression depth and rate
  • AED application and safe use
  • Recovery position for unconscious casualties
  • Managing choking scenarios
  • Controlling external bleeding
  • Responding to life-threatening blood loss

These practical elements are crucial. First aid is not simply about remembering information — it is about being able to act confidently when it matters.

The inclusion of catastrophic bleed management ensured learners were prepared not only for everyday workplace incidents but also for more severe trauma situations that require immediate and decisive action.

A Professional Yet Enjoyable Atmosphere

Despite the seriousness of the subject matter, the day maintained a positive and engaging tone. Learners were encouraged to ask questions, share experiences, and practise repeatedly until they felt confident.

We are proud to continue our 100 percent pass rate across all Emergency First Aid at Work courses, reflecting both the commitment of our learners and the clarity of the training delivered.

Learner Feedback
