Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work at Our Sunderland Training Location

In December, First Aid and Safety Training delivered a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course at our Sunderland training venue, Bede Tower on Burdon Road. This Ofqual-approved qualification brought together a diverse group of learners for an engaging, practical, and confidence-building day.

The course welcomed participants from a range of sectors, including a personal trainer, team members from Citizens Advice Sunderland, and education professionals—head of year and teachers—from Boldon School. The mix of backgrounds and experience levels created a lively, supportive learning environment where discussion and shared learning added real value.

A Lively, Interactive Learning Experience

From the outset, the day had a friendly, chatty atmosphere that encouraged learners to ask questions, share perspectives, and learn from one another. While the content covered all required elements of Emergency First Aid at Work, delivery focused on real-world application rather than information overload.

This approach works particularly well with mixed groups, helping first-time learners build confidence while allowing those renewing their qualification to refresh and deepen their understanding.

What the Course Covered

The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to equip learners with the skills to respond confidently to workplace emergencies. Key topics included:

  • The role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
  • Incident and casualty assessment
  • Adult CPR and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Choking emergencies
  • External bleeding, wounds, and shock
  • Basic injury management and incident response

Throughout the day, learners took part in hands-on tasks and practical exercises, reinforcing learning through doing rather than passive listening.

Building Confidence Through Practice

A strong emphasis was placed on practical skills, with plenty of time for repetition and feedback. Learners practised techniques until they felt comfortable and confident, supported by clear demonstrations and open discussion.

The relaxed delivery style helped remove anxiety around first aid, replacing it with reassurance and the confidence to act if faced with a real emergency—whether at work, in the community, or at home.
