How to Get First Aid Training

While first aid training isn’t something that’s required by many employers or educational systems, it’s certainly worth considering. By taking the time to explore how to get first aid training, you can make sure that you feel confident no matter what happens to you or to your family and friends.

Accidents and injuries will happen, so any chance you have to prepare yourself is s chance you should take. Here are some ways to learn basic first aid training.

The Red Cross

In the United States, the American Red Cross is the go-to place for first aid training. You will learn everything from basic first aid to adult, child, and infant CPR. This will help you manage any crisis situation as well as allow you to take action when necessary. Classes at the Red Cross are taught at all times of the day and of the week, helping even the busiest person fit a class into their schedule.

You will receive certification for the session and you will simply need to renew the training after a few years. The Red Cross will also give you a training booklet to review on your own.

The Library or Bookstore

Though getting first aid training from a book isn’t the best way to learn, it will help you with basic medical emergencies. By taking a few hours a week to look over basic first aid techniques, you will learn what you need to look for and what you need to do should someone become injured or you yourself become injured.

Look for first aid training books that were written and edited by physicians and large medical corporations to ensure that the information is accurate and useful.

Take a Community Course

Some local community centers and schools may also offer first aid training. Check to see if your town does and you might find that these classes are much cheaper than the Red Cross without being any less in terms of quality. You can also talk to your local colleges and universities to see if they are offering first aid training to the local community.

Other ways to learn basic first aid include:

• Internet resources – Just be sure that the websites are from large medical organizations to ensure the information is accurate.
• Local hospital training – Some hospitals offer community training sessions.
• Your workplace – Some employers will pay for you to have first aid training to help with safety management.

First aid training will help you prepare yourself for any sort of medical emergency. But it will take some time and effort to ensure that you are learning all that you can and all that you need to know. However, it’s worth it.
