Why The Paediatric First Aid Refresher Course Matters
First aid skills can fade over time, especially if they are not used regularly.
In an emergency, there is no time to stop and think, you rely on what you remember and what you have practised.
This is why annual refresher training is strongly recommended, helping you:
Keep key skills fresh
Stay up to date with best practice
Build confidence in responding to emergencies
Reduce hesitation in real-life situations
For anyone working with children, this added confidence can make a real difference.

Paediatric First Aid Refresher Course FAQs
A paediatric first aid refresher course is designed to help qualified first aiders revisit and practise key life-saving skills involving infants and children. It focuses on maintaining confidence and competence between full qualifications.
This course is suitable for anyone who already holds a valid Paediatric First Aid (PFA) or Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) qualification and wants to keep their skills up to date.
No. This course does not renew or extend your qualification. It is designed to support your existing training and help maintain your skills. To renew your qualification, you will need to complete the full course or requalification.
First aid skills can fade over time if they are not used regularly. Refresher training helps you stay confident, improves your response time in an emergency and ensures you are familiar with current best practice.
The course revisits key emergency skills such as CPR for infants and children, choking management, use of a defibrillator, unconscious casualty care and emergency response techniques.
The refresher course focuses on core life-saving skills, but additional topics such as anaphylaxis can be included where required, depending on your setting and needs.
The course is typically delivered over a half day, with a strong focus on practical, hands-on training and repetition of key skills.
While not always mandatory, refresher training is strongly recommended to maintain confidence and competence, particularly in childcare environments where quick response is essential.
Refresher training supports your ongoing competence, but it does not replace the need for a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification to meet EYFS requirements.
Yes. We offer onsite refresher training across the North East, making it easy for teams to update their skills together in a familiar environment.
If your qualification is close to expiry, you should complete a full Paediatric First Aid course or a blended option to remain compliant.
Choosing The Right Paediatric First Aid Course
This Paediatric First Aid Refresher Course is designed to help you maintain your skills and confidence between qualifications, but it does not replace the need for a valid paediatric first aid qualification.
If your qualification is due to expire or you need to meet EYFS requirements, you will need to complete the Paediatric First Aid Course, which is the full Level 3 qualification required for most childcare settings.
For a more flexible option, we strongly recommend our Blended Paediatric First Aid Course, allowing you to achieve the same qualification while reducing time away from your setting.
We also offer the Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course, which is suitable for support staff and additional first aid cover, but does not replace the need for a fully qualified Paediatric First Aider in most environments.
