The course covers:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident and ensuring safety
- Managing an unresponsive casualty
- Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Using an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- The recovery position
- Recognising and managing choking
- Responding to seizures
- Managing external bleeding
- Recognising and treating shock
- First aid for minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bruises and minor burns
You will have opportunities to practise essential skills using training equipment, including CPR manikins and training defibrillators.

Qualification and Certification
On successful completion, learners receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF).
This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification suitable for workplace emergency first aid provision where identified through an employer’s first aid needs assessment.
The qualification is valid for three years. Annual refresher training is recommended to help maintain first aid skills and confidence.
